A Day of Workshops, Screenings & Special Programs for Emerging Filmmakers in Grades 7-12

Youth Film Day is a free program designed for emerging filmmakers in grades 7-12. Produced by Hofstra University and the Gold Coast International Film Festival, student filmmakers are invited to participate in a day full of film activities, panels, workshops, and special giveaways. Participants will have the opportunity to submit their own short films for awards and feedback, as well as network with other filmmakers, Hofstra faculty and students as well as industry professionals. This program is designed for any student interested in the world of film, including directing, producing, editing, writing and acting! See details below:

Attend hands-on film making workshops on topics including:( All workshops will be taught by working filmmakers and film industry professionals, GCIFF staff and Hofstra film faculty)

*Creating a Home Studio
*Drones, Sliders & Other Cool Stuff
*Editing
*Film Studies
*How to Make a Short Film
*Film Industry Panels
*Script & Film Critique
*Sound Design & Effects 
*Special FX Makeup
*Stunts & Fight Choreography
*Visual Effects

→ Submit your short film to be screened during the event and for feedback from industry professionals and then celebrate this year’s winning films at the Closing Awards Ceremony(Please note that it is not required that you submit a short film to attend the event)

Explore the State-of-the-Art Film and TV studios at Hofstra University’s Lawrence Herbert School of Communication 


REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED:

SHORT FILM SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
All films (incl. credits) must be no more than five (5) minutes in length and be PG in content.

We will accept films of all genres, including, but not limited to:

    • Documentary
    • Narrative (must tell a story or have some narrative structure)
    • PSA or TV Commercial (maximum length – 2 minutes)
    • Animation
    • Music Videos (of original music only)

NOTE: all content must be original and/or used with permission

Filming Specs:
Films can be shot on any format (smart phone, video, digital video etc…)
Production values should be as high as possible, including sound and picture
Video must be high resolution format, 1920×1080
